Increasing the mechanical advantage of the extensor tendon to straighten the PIPJ is another strategy I use to straighten the PIPJ. To do this you need to prevent the MPJ of the finger with the flexion contracture from going into hyperextension. This can be accomplished several ways: relative motion flexion orthosis, a comfortable soft curler, an anti claw orthosis or a pen.
